There are many reasons why your color (and not just red) could fade quickly. In the spirit of time
(and available page space) I will list only a few of the major ones. For specific issues on why
your color fades, I recommend seeing a certified Trichologist for diagnosis.
No underlying pigment to support the color - When hair is lifted during a coloring process, an
underlying pigment is exposed prior to the artificial color oxidizing to the target shade. Ideally the
level of color your aiming for will be supported by this underlying pigment (IE if your target color
is a copper brown, the underlying pigment should be orange or orange-gold). If the underlying
pigment does not correspond with your target shade then longevity will (probably) suffer.
Shampooing after rinsing color or frequent shampooing in-between visits - Shampooing directly
after a color process is a major cause of premature color fade as is daily shampooing at home.
Incorrect use of conditioners - Another major cause of color fade is improper use of
conditioners. Conditioners should be left on a minimum of 5 minutes in order to close the cuticle
of the hair. Conditioners should also be used every time the hair is wet regardless of whether the
hair has been shampooed or not.
Over-processed hair - Hair that is already suffering from issues with tensile strength and elasticity
will generally be prone to color fade due to protein loss within the hair that negatively impacts the
amount of surface area to which a color molecule can attach.
